The World Sleep Day , which since the beginning of its creation in 2008 by WASM has been held every year in Spain sponsored by the Spanish Sleep Society , this year is celebrated on March 14 and its motto is " Breathe Well better sleep , is health "and intends to focus on the frequent complaints of the common sleep disorders. Breathing properly and sleep well at night is vital to overall health .
People with obstructive sleep apnea often wake up at night to breathe. One of the most significant risk factors for sleep apnea is being overweight or obese. The accumulation of fat in the upper airway can reduce the opening of the throat , while a large abdomen may interfere with the pumping action of the diaphragm . Obesity is a public health problem and is one of the epidemic diseases in developed countries.
In Spain in the last two decades , has tripled the number of children and young people with this problem.
Other risk factors for sleep apnea are hypnotic , sedative or relaxant drugs , snuff and alcohol abuse and children , large tonsils. Acting on these factors in treatment planning of apneas , be sufficient in some cases and in others it will be a complementary measure to consider.
The Spanish Sleep Society (SES ) with the collaborating companies: separ , SEN , SEORL , like the World Sleep Day , March 14, 2014 , to raise awareness among health professionals and citizens that will impact lifestyles good sleep in improving their quality of life.
